THE FEEL
Diversity is a hallmark of the newly revitalized Tower grove neighborhood. A mix of different ethnic backgrounds, income levels, and orientations has lead to a blossoming of great restaurants, friendly neighborhood cafes, and neighborly residential blocks.
The architecture in Tower Grove reflects the rich heritage of St. Louis. Homes are primarily brick with older Victorians homes sprinkled in. Many homes have oak flooring, leaded glass windows, fireplaces, french doors and more. There’s a great housing rehab culture, which has turned many of the older duplexes and unused storefronts into housing for single families.
HISTORY
The Tower Grove East neighborhood is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion C for architecture. The neighborhood is locally significant for the quality and diversity of its architectural components and for their embodiment of an intact collection of forms, styles, and methods of construction previously recognized as significant under the Multiple Property Documentation Form (MPDF) South St. Louis Historic Working- and Middle-Class Streetcar Suburbs.
ACCESSIBILITY
The neighborhood is accessible to major highways 64/40 and 55, and primary streets that lead to neighborhoods like the Central West End and Benton Park.
CULTURE
There is a good balance of homeowners, renters, and small businesses in the neighborhood. People are friendly and welcome diversity.
In the summer, Tower Grove Park features many free concerts, many of which are set in the beautiful Missouri Botanical Garden. It also plays host to annual celebrations such as the Chinese New Year, the Festival of Nations, and Pridefest.
ENTERTAINMENT
Tower Grove contains the Southside of Grand Boulevard, filled with restaurants, bars, and hole-n-the-wall favorites. The neighborhood hotspot is The Grove. Lined with bars and restaurants, it’s a nightlife destination for the LGBT community and artists.
SCHOOLS
Tower Grove is part of the St. Louis School District. The neighborhood offers a variety of schools and teaching methods.
PARKS & REC
Tower Grove | This 289-acre park is a National Historic Landmark and for good reason. With Victorian gazebos, free symphonic concerts, and Food Truck Fridays, there is more to enjoy than just its biking and walking trails. Yearly festivals like The Festivals of Nations and Pridefest are also held here.
McDonald Park- Bent Avenue and Utah | This kid-friendly park has a playground, soccer and softball fields, and a spray pool.
